Jason's Memorial

It is a sad state of affairs when we let down our Veterans and their families.  On May 10, 2017, a 35-year-0ld disabled vet shot himself in his vehicle in his front yard as the police drove up and died of his wound.  Leaving behind seven children and a young wife with no life insurance and no help from the VA.

Jason's wife was in her second year of pre nursing courses and worked part time to help support the family and was Jason's full time care giver.  Jason was diagnosed with PTSD, Tramatic Brain Injury and had most of one leg's bones replaced with metal after severe injuries while in the service.  After his return, his physical injuries were addressed but his mental injuries were not completely treated.  We now have a family in despair and asking for help to get started again.  This young mother and her children need to bury their dead and get back on their feet.

Jason was taken off a VA program a few months ago that had helped to keep him mentally stable where he was checked on regularly because he no longer qualified, deemed doing better he was dropped from the program.  The reason given his wife was that there were cut backs financially.  The VA no longer seemed to care and even though his wife called and reported problems, was essentially ignored. Over the course of the last couple of months, Jason went downhill.  This started the downfall to his suicide that has left his family here in the current situation.

Jason kept stating that day he no longer 'wanted to do this' and became argumentative, so his wife took the children and went to her mother's but was on the phone with crisis and the police desperately trying to get her husband help.  Jason pulled the trigger as the police were pulling up to him.

As a neighbor, I will never know the whole story, but the family is currently unable to pay for the burial/cremation costs, the cost of paying bills, moving expenses, or getting set up in a new home.  The house where they lived was a rental.  With family support, (her mother's credit card) she is getting a storage unit to put her belongings into while staying with her mother with four of the seven children.  The youngest being two-year-old twins that just celebrated their birthdays three weeks ago.  The other three children from Jason's previous relationships live with their mothers.  This family will have to get re-established, set up in a new home, pay for final expenses for Jason, and somehow get through all that has occurred with very limited funds.  The vehicle Jason killed himself in was financed and no longer affordable, but was the only vehicle that was appropriate transportation to transport the whole family safely.

We are reaching out for help.  The help the VA is offering is extremely limited and this family is really in need right now.  This young mother has four children to take care of and if not for her family, would be without any support.  We are asking for help to get Jason cremated and his remains buried and to get the family through a very tough time.  They need a safe vehicle that can transport all of them, they need to be able to take care of the final expenses for Jason even though the totals are not even in yet.  We need to get mom back to work and back to school so she will be able to support her family on her own long term.  But mostly be able to support her family through the immediate crisis and bury her husband while the VA decides what benefits the children have rights to.

We all know the situation is temporary, but with our support this family can make it without losing everything they currently have.  Their family can do only so much and could really use our help.  This was a mentally sick disabled VET that the system failed; leaving this family in this current situation and although I know that there are many in this situation, this is one family we can help.  So please donate what you can, even a dollar will help to get this family through such a horrible time.
