As a family we are writing this from our hearts on behalf of Jason’s closest family and friends as we are all struggling to come to terms with the fact that Jason has been given the worst news a person can hear.
At the age of 54, he has recently been diagnosed with an incredibly rare and aggressive cancer that, despite initial surgery has now moved to his liver and is at stage 4. There are specialist treatments available, which the NHS will not provide as due to the cancer being so rare, they do not have the clinical trial evidence to support such a treatment plan. This news has turned his world upside down, and we are now in a race against time to get him the treatment and care that he needs to extend his life, spending time and making memories with his children and granddaughter (currently aged 2).
The Journey So Far
After 6-9 months of being very poorly and visiting 2 different hospitals, Jason was given the devastating diagnosis of “ampullary adenocarcinoma” spending weeks in hospital waiting to be well enough for the major surgery needed. Finally, in July 2025, he had a resection (lasting almost 12 hours) and beat survival odds from surgery alone, where 3 out of 4 patients die.
Jason is still recovering from this surgery, which took a massive toll on his body and has been progressing well, putting on weight and doing everything he can to absorb nutrient rich foods to help his body recover; however, the journey is becoming increasingly difficult. He now finds himself in a terrible situation with treatment options being very uncertain, a prognosis of 3-6 months to live, perhaps a few months more.
So, we are now looking at specialised treatment options offered privately in the UK. The cost for these treatments starts at around £30,000, and are only available in either Oxford or London, so Jason will have to travel and stay in either location from his home in Birmingham. When the cost of travel, accommodation and other associated medical expenses is factored in, the overall cost of treatment increases significantly and is expected to exceed £50,000. Jason is currently working to release circa £10,000 from a small pension, but this will only allow him to start the process, not complete it. This is why we are asking for your help to raise £40,000.
The Path to Recovery
We are currently in discussions with Jason’s oncology consultant for a referral, but we are now faced with the monumental task of raising the funds needed as soon as possible, to cover the costs, before the tumours progress. We want to give Jason the very best chance to beat this illness and spend more time with the people who love him.
He is currently awaiting an appointment with an oncologist renowned for his expertise in gastrointestinal cancers and Stereotactic Ablative Radiotherapy (SABR).
SABR uses many small, focussed beams of radiation, using advanced technology they are precisely directed from different angles that meet at the tumour shrinking or destroying them and has the benefit of little damage to surrounding tissue. Treatment will usually be spread over days and can be up to 2 weeks.
How You Can Help
Jason has always been a hard worker and a loyal friend, but due to his illness, he has not been able to work for over 12 months. This has added an immense financial burden to an already devastating situation.
Please, please, we ask if you can help us any way you can.
* Donate: No amount is too small; every pound brings Jason closer to his treatment.
* Share: Please share this page with your networks, on social media, and with friends.
We are so grateful for any help, prayers, or thoughts you can offer during this heart breaking time. Thank you for helping us fight for Jason.
