Jason’s assisted living moving expenses
#dementiacare #dementiaawareness #yippeekiyay
My Brother, Jason Wanska, was diagnosed with early-onset genetic Dementia last august 2022. He has been unemployed as of December 2021, when his symptoms became acute and he could not continue as a cook at Tommy’s Coventry. A job he held for 13 years in addition to artfully installing tile. He has no retirement or savings. Thankfully his disability was approved in January 2023 and we were able to find housing for him, but there will be no money left over every month to cover additional expenses. We are so grateful for an opening for him at Ivy House, however, the room is unfurnished and we need to acquire safe and comfortable pieces for him. After a year of housing and caring for him and taking him to sometimes multiple dr. appointments a week, the expense of furnishing and moving him into his new room is a difficulty.
A dementia diagnosis at 52 has been very hard. Jason is still a bright, positive, comedic person, despite his diagnosis.
Any amount donated will be so helpful to us. Anyone that would like to contact Jason please reach out to me or my mom. The timeline for his disease is uncertain. He struggles to play the guitar, something he mastered at 16, but he can recall memories and conversate well despite some forgotten words. His specific form of dementia is called CAA, a rare brain disease with no cure. Cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA) is a condition in which proteins called amyloid build up on the walls of the arteries in the brain. CAA causes bleeding into the brain (hemorrhagic stroke) and dementia. Jason is a Navy Veteran and was deployed during desert storm.
The contributions to this fundraiser will be used to acquire the following items:
A bed ( mattress, frame, sheets)
tv/DVD player
Comfortable chair
Floor lamp
Desk
Bedside table/lamp
dresser
Any additional funds left over will be used to supplement the monthly expenses not covered by the room including toiletries, shoes, clothing, snacks, etc., that we plan to pay for out of pocket.
