Jason's Fearless Fight Continued

Donation protected
Dear Friends & Family,

Jason Barner is a loved brother, friend, partner and son.

In the beginning of February 2020, Jason started to have some symptoms that included memory loss and tiredness. On Friday, February 7th, Jason was brought to the emergency room due to his significant worsening of his memory, change in behavior and its effect on his work. CT scans showed something that the doctors wanted a specialist to take a look at and he was then transferred to University of Penn Hospital.
An MRI showed that Jason had a brain tumor near his hypothalamus, which was causing his symptoms. The plan was to get Jason into surgery as soon as possible.

On Monday, February 10th, Jason underwent surgery to extract as much of the tumor as possible. On February 28th, Jason’s oncologists informed us that the tumor is a Diffuse Midline Glioma with the H3 K27M mutation. To start Jason’s road to recovery, he underwent 6 weeks of radiation therapy and finished on May 1st.

At first the radiation seemed to have stopped tumor growth and shrunk the size of the tumor. However, his most recent MRIs show that the tumor appears to be growing again. His oncologist strongly recommended getting Jason into a clinical trial for a drug called ONC-201, which has been showing good results for patients with the same diagnosis as Jason. The nearest place that offers this clinical trial is the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. Thankfully, Jason qualifies for the trial and is set to begin taking the ONC-201 drug on December 1st. He will have to return to Boston every 3 weeks to see the doctors up there.

This time has been quite the roller coaster, and all came on very quickly. While this is not what we could have ever imagined, with his support system behind him we are hopeful that Jason will make a recovery. We ask for positivity, prayers and support during this time.

This fund is to assist his family to help cover medical bills as well as travel and hotel expenses for their frequent trips to Boston for the clinical trial. Any and all donations are greatly appreciated!
