Hey friends and family! “So what’s this go-fund-me about?” you’re probably thinking.
Well, let me rewind to summer of 2018…
It came as a shock to my entire family when Jason, my brother-in-law (also best friend), and my sister Cara announced that he was diagnosed with testicular cancer. You have to understand who Jason is—he is the most kind-hearted, others-focused, and God-honoring man I know. He is constantly serving his family of four—two boys, James (4 yrs)and Hudson(2 yrs), and one baby girl, Emily (almost 1 yr), and my sister Cara. His servant-heart and genuine character of faith and trusting in Christ has a way of making everyone feel at peace and appreciated. So you can imagine when we heard the news, how hard it was to imagine Jason not with us. That possible reality pulled our family tighter, resting in the promise that God is faithful, and He is good no matter what happens. Later in the summer of 2018, Jason had surgery to remove the tumor. The results were positive, the doctor was encouraging, and everything felt normal again.
But then, about a month ago, at one of Jason’s monthly check-ups, the news we dreaded resurfaced. Jason’s doctor announced that Jason had been hit with round-two cancer. It had spread to a lymph node. Jason and Cara discussed treatment options with their doctor, and it became clear that radiation treatments would be the best route to recovery.
Talking with Jason, it has been obvious to see the peace he has in Christ. He told me his only worry was providing for his family and worrying about how to care financially for his wife and little kids. With pressures of not only radiation treatments bills, but also paying for students loans, house and car bills, etc., Jason has constantly been thinking about providing and serving others—not himself and not his cancer. He completely trusts God to provide, choosing not to worry but to instead love and serve others more. It’s obvious to see Christ’s love in him, despite the cancer taking a toll.
And this is why I have chosen to start this go-fund-me. Since neither Jason nor Cara have social media, this financial gift will come as a complete surprise, and, my hope, as a complete blessing. (So please don't tell either Jason or Cara about this surprise!) My goal is to reach $10,000 to cover part of his treatments and appointments. Thank you for considering supporting Jason and Cara as we walk through this trial and journey together.
