Jason’s Medical Bills

Update from Renée: Jason underwent a vitrectomy surgery in the Spring of 2023 (per his local retina specialist’s suggestion). We were hopeful this would stop his frequent floaters and hemorrhaging, which had gotten to a point of affecting his day to day life. Unfortunately, the surgery was not only unsuccessful, but a large tear occurred during the procedure. This left no central vision in his right eye. His surgeon suggested we wait, to see if the tear would heal on its own over time. In the meanwhile, when his left eye has a large floater, it essentially leaves him blind until the floater subsides. In September, we switched to Casey Eye Institute in Portland for Jason’s care. Jason recently met with specialists there for several hours. They explained that the tear is much too large to heal on its own and that it should’ve been repaired 4 weeks after surgery. There is a chance his vision won’t return but we are hopeful and won’t know until we try. The doctors at Casey Eye are incredibly thorough and have much more advanced equipment than his former clinic. He will be undergoing repair surgery Oct 11th and have an intense recovery that requires staying face down 3-7 days. At the same time they will do additional laser surgery in his other eye. He will continue to receive quarterly injections which are very costly. We are incredibly grateful to all of our friends and family who have helped us with these overwhelming medical costs.

In 2016 Jason was diagnosed with stage 4 proliferative diabetic retinopathy. Since then, his vision has been declining. Jason is at risk of blindness by age 50 and has already began experiencing significant vision loss.

For the past 5 years, Jason has undergone costly quarterly procedures with a retina specialist in an attempt to maintain his current state of vision for as long as possible.

Jason has served at four different churches in WA, OR & CA as a gifted worship pastor. Our hope is that if enough people give a small amount then the cost of surgery will be taken care of.
