On the evening of the 14th of April, Jason told Holly he had pain in his neck. The pain increased, and Holly noticed he did not look good, and his headache became extremely painful. She took him to the ED in Granby. They did a CT scan, discovered a hematoma, and put him on the flight to St Anthony’s in Lakewood. The ED doctor consulted with the on-call neurosurgeon and admitted him to the ICU around 3 am. He was in critical stable condition.

 

4/15/2022

Jason had another CT scan this morning. It showed his condition had worsened. The neurosurgeon then diagnosed him with Hydrocephalus. He continued to become more and more tired. The team moved forward with surgery and did an EVD this morning.

“External ventricular drain (EVD): A temporary system that allows the drainage of cerebral spinal fluid (CSF) from the ventricles to an external closed system. Intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring: A temporary device allowing measurement and recording of intracranial pressure.”

The surgery was a success! They placed the EVD on the first try, and it immediately started draining!

The following CT scan showed that Jason had not worsened. They did an ambulatory with contrast which showed no aneurysm! The doctors this morning said that a hematoma could happen, and a reason may never be known.
Jason did not hit his head and he was NOT in an accident. 

 

Next steps.

The EVD will remain in place for the next week. They will watch him closely as his body heals. 

Jason will stay in the ICU for a minimum of 3 weeks. The doctors said this is common for someone in his condition.
The team of doctors will run more tests over the next couple of weeks to make sure he is healing.
