Jason's Medical Emergency

On Thursday, May 27th Jason Root experienced a major right-hemisphere Middle Cerebral Artery (R-MCA) stroke . Greta was able to accompany him on the emergency flight to SLC where they attempted multiple times to remove the clot (thrombectomy), unsuccessfully. They believe the clot originated from his heart- having had open heart surgery in September. On Friday, May 28th, Jason underwent another surgery to relieve the pressure from his brain swelling (hemicraniectomy) which is a life-saving procedure. Post surgeries, he is being closely monitored and the doctors are even beginning early physical-speech-occupational therapies to hopefully kickstart the healing process.

Jason and Greta's Story

Jason is a youthful 33, originally from Tennessee but has lived in Montana for most of his adult life. He loves music, the mountains, especially when he's riding his bike or snowboarding and his love, Greta. Greta and Jason have been together for ten years and have spent the majority of that time adventuring and building a life together in their home in Bozeman. This past year has been a major disruption to what is normally the best time of a young couple's life- Jason underwent open heart surgery in the middle of COVID to repair a defective valve and lost his mother to cancer. He had to be extra cautious during the pandemic to ensure a safe rehabilitation of his heart, making this past year lonely and difficult. Jason was emerging with the beautiful mountain spring weather, having been vaccinated and cleared for light physical activity, when the stroke occurred.

What the Go Fund Me will support

Myself (Greta's business partner) and Greta's sister-in-law, Heather, have decided to create this Go Fund Me to help them both focus solely on recovery. We hope that this money will alleviate the pressures of daily responsibilities and the forthcoming changes each will have to make as they walk this journey together. Aside from the unknown medical bills outside of insurance coverage, there will be long-term living expenses while Greta stays near his side in Salt Lake. They will also likely need to have renovations to their small home to suit Jason's physical needs and the many recurring costs from such an unexpected, jarring life change.
