After living  over 10 years with chronic pain, stiffness and swelling - struggling each and every day with serious mobility issues - there is hope on the horizon for Jason, in the form of Stem Cell Therapy...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“JUST BREATHE:  FOUR COUNTS IN…”

These are words Jason Rix has been known to say to some of the troubled youth he works with – and words he knows to live by, himself. It's called "box breathing", a form of meditation that helps alleviate stress, and pain.

Jason has dedicated the better part of his life in and around Vancouver BC Canada, to helping youth at risk, and imparting his wisdom, wit, and whimsy on his teenaged charges.  Since the '90s, while working at a wilderness camp for young offenders (before his body betrayed him); to the present, in his current job as a foster parent at a group home for teenagers (where he’s not physically taxed), Jason has been a caring and insightful role model.

Anyone who has known Jason for long,  remembers the jock that he once was, and knows the struggle he’s been dealing with every day for the past 10+ years – a struggle that he has endured stoically, without bitterness, negativity, or complaint.

Since he was 37 years old, Jason has lived with an auto-immune disorder that manifests with chronic systemic inflammation – causing pain, stiffness, swelling, and decreased mobility, throughout his whole body, every single day.  The symptoms affect his stance and posture while standing, his pace while walking, and his stamina.  It’s a struggle for him to get up the few steps to his front door, and traversing a full set of stairs is a long and painful process (see videos at bottom of this page).   He cannot sleep without waking up in pain several times through the night, and getting out of bed is a slow and complicated procedure.

                          (Jason with his son, about 2008, when the symptoms first started...)

“…HOLD FOR FOUR COUNTS…”

Jason’s 14 year old son has no memories of when his Dad was 100% hale and hearty.

Although Jason had been physically active his whole life – hockey, golfing, cycling, hiking, skiing, sailing, kayaking, surfing, rock climbing – he had to give it all up, after this disorder started when his son was about four years old.

Since then, they’ve been unable to roughhouse or wrestle together – typical father/son shenanigans and important bonding rituals that many men might take for granted.

Helping his son practice his high school football plays and archery, or sharing any of the other sports and activities that Jason has always loved to do, have simply been impossible for them, although he still dreams that someday he’ll be able, before his son is all grown up….

“….BREATHE OUT FOR FOUR COUNTS….”

The $36,000 CDN  ($27,000 USD)  that we’re expecting to raise through this fundraiser, will be spent on mesenchymal stem cell treatment at the Stem Cell Institute in Panama https://www.cellmedicine.com/ , that is not yet available in Canada or the US.

This is the same institute that Mel Gibson took his father to, after being vetted by his doctor from the Mayo Clinic.  They don’t claim to be able to “fix everything”, but auto-immune diseases are one of the conditions they’ve had incredible success with.

Stem cell therapy is not “junk science”, and is ethical – it has come a long way in recent years, and Michael J.Fox’s Foundation is also looking at stem cells with regards to Parkinson’s research.

There are stem cell clinics in the US and Canada, but they use the patient’s own “old” cells from fat and bone marrow, and they’re simply nowhere near as effective as young umbilical cord stem cells, which are not yet approved for use in the US and Canada.

In part, Tony states:

      "Stem cell treatment is a next-level medical solution with the potential to
        make a
massive impact on human health and longevity. It truly has the
        potential to save
MILLIONS of lives!  I believe so strongly in the power of

 Although it's not *yet* available in the US or Canada, this type of stem cell therapy is seriously being considered - check out these two short videos (under 4 minutes each) of two Stem Cell Institute patients, speaking at the Texas State House Public Hearing on Stem Cell Therapy House Bill 810:

Our $27,000 USD estimate includes:

-        medical costs for multiple treatments, using “120 million expanded allogeneic
           mesenchymal stem cells”, and five days and nights’ accommodation at the clinic
           ($23,150 USD, per the quote that Jason received November 2018);

-        two or three nights at the hotel before and after treatment (approx. $350 USD);

-        airfare to and from the Stem Cell Institute in Panama (approx. $3,000 USD);

-        meals and expenses while there (approx. $500 USD).

“…HOLD FOR FOUR MORE COUNTS…”

Jason is a perfect candidate for this therapy.  Despite his daily struggle, he keeps care of his body:  he has chosen to breathe through the pain and not take anti-inflammatories and other drugs that adversely affect organs when used over the long-term; has changed his diet to a plant-based one, known to have anti-inflammatory benefits; and regularly takes probiotics and enzymes to better help his body deal with the inflammation.

“…AND START ALL OVER AGAIN.”

Jason’s quality of life over the past 10 years is not what it should be for a young father of a teenage son.  With your help, we’re hoping to get Jason the treatment he needs to heal, to put this behind him, and to be able to enjoy his life again, physically, and emotionally.
