Jason Powell is a 40 year old married father of 4 children and a physical therapist by trade. He has been disabled since 2012 due to severe Crohn's Disease as described below.
Jason has suffered from Crohn's Disease since the ago of 8. Over the years, he has had 5 major surgeries which have left him with short gut syndrome due to removal of sections of his small and large intestines. The remaining intestines are inflamed to the point where he cannot absorb enough food or water to sustain himself. In August 2018, Jason was started on total parenteral nutrition (TPN) where all of his fluids, nutrients, and vitamins are given through an IV. He has had not oral intake since being started on TPN.
Since Jason's commercially available treatment options are exhausted, he has decided to undergo a stem cell transplant as part of an experimental treatment protocol in Pittsburgh, PA that has shown some promising results in helping patients like him achieve remission. Through the pre-transplant harvest and actual transplant, Jason will need to take multiple trips to Pittsburgh that he will need to fund on his own.
For Jason, achieving remission would mean a potential to eat again someday and, hopefully returning to work.
We are asking for help funding Jason's trips to Pittsburgh, which will cost at least $15,000.
