Jason May's Medical Expenses for Brain Tumor

Donation protected
Jason May was diagnosed with a Stage 4 Glioblastoma brain tumor in September 2018. It is an incurable type of cancer given that complete removal of the tumor is not possible and therefore, after an operation to remove as much of the tumor as possible, radiation and chemotherapy treatments are now required to try to stop its growth and hopefully reduce its size.

Jason has an incredible group of friends and family that have given an enormous amount of time and energy to help him get an initial biopsy and then surgery to remove as much of the tumor as possible at UCSF in San Francisco. UCSF is one of the best institutions regarding research and surgical procedures related to the type of tumor he has, so he has the best professionals working with him to treat his cancer.

Jason began radiation treatments December 4th, 2018 along with chemotherapy. The joint treatments will last 6 weeks and after that there will be a 4 week period where he will get reevaluated. After the 4 week rest period, chemotherapy will continue at 5 days/month for 6 to 12 cycles (6 to 12 months) and will be double the dose of the initial chemotherapy dosage.

Jason has been incredibly lucky to have high-quality health insurance that covers a large percentage of his medical expenses. As part of his employment with the federal government, he is currently receiving his full salary due to the large number of leave and sick hours (nearly a year’s worth) that he has accrued through the years. However, he is now in an assisted living facility in the Sacramento area where he is approximately $2,000 short each month for his living and care expenses (which includes several medications and 24/7 care). In addition and still unknown at this time are the medical expenses that have accrued from his lengthy hospital stays (most of the past 2 months, including UCSF for surgery for a week and 21 days in an acute rehab hospital), not to mention other procedures and ongoing treatments and evaluations that he will undergo for the next several months.

Any donations received will go 100% to cover Jason's living and care expenses and to cover his medical expenses which are sure to eventually be much more than $25,000. We will update his Go Fund Me page regarding medical bills and how Jason is doing periodically, and if needed we will increase the target donation amount.
