HELP US HELP JASON
On Saturday May 6th, Jason Lindhorst experienced a tragedy that would change his life forever. Driving home from a fish fry at his step-brother Steve’s land, Jason and his mother were hit head-on by a speeding three-quarter ton truck. It darted across the median and catapulted into his front driver’s side, completely demolishing Jason's one-ton dually. Even though he was driving with reduced speed due to a storm that night, Jason never saw it coming. An off-duty police officer that was following the other truck witnessed the accident and was able to quickly circle back and call for help. Tragically, Jason's mom, Elizabeth McWhorter, did not survive the impact.

WE ARE RAISING MONEY TO HELP JASON WHILE HE HEALS
The left side of the truck collapsed on Jason, crushing his body and causing life-threatening injuries. Jason was trapped in his truck for 45 minutes before first responders were able to get the jaws of life and cut through the steel rubble to free him. He was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital, a nationally ranked Level One trauma hospital in downtown Fort Worth. Jason arrived at their trauma center around 90 minutes after the initial impact. Once doctors were able to stabilize his urgent injuries, they started working on his broken body.

OVER 35 FRACTURED BONES
Doctors were unsure if they would be able to save Jason's left arm or leg. He had a severe compound break just above the left wrist. He shattered his left shoulder socket, broke his left hip, and four ribs. His left ankle was crushed and both bones in his lower leg had also torn through the skin.

In addition, Jason broke two vertebrae, both kneecaps and had compound breaks to both his right arm and right lower leg. He had multiple cuts to his head and face that required many stitches. He sustained a concussion, ruptured his spleen, and had an airbag burn on the left side of his face.

Jason had seven surgeries in that first week. He has had five more surgeries since then. The JPS doctors and nurses from his first admission came to check on Jason in the days to follow and said they had never seen someone with so much trauma survive.

After the initial life-saving surgeries, the outstanding surgeons at JPS moved on to trying to save Jason's arm. They had to remove muscle from his right thigh and transplant it to his left forearm in hopes that his fingers will be functional. They grafted skin from his left thigh to cover the wounded area. Jason's most recent surgery was to replace his shattered shoulder.

$250,000 GOAL
The driver of the other truck had minimum insurance coverage. Jason's health coverage through his employer will cover the majority of the hospital bills, but he was only able to take paid time off through June 2nd. Health insurance will continue to be paid through July 28th, at which time he will need to pay COBRA for up to 18 months until he can find another job.

Jason is going to need extensive physical rehab that is anticipated to last at least a year. The loss of his mother and the change in his mobility are going to take a heavy toll on him, not only physically, but also mentally. He is going to need time and support to process what has happened. We are hoping to generate funds to help cover physical therapy, medical and living expenses that insurance is not going to cover. Our goal is $250,000 to help him bridge this shortfall in coverage.

PRAY FOR JASON
Let this be a reminder to us all that every day is a gift. Join us in praying for Jason's full recovery and remember to live each day to the fullest, hug the ones you love, and help those that are less fortunate along the way.
