Jason Brown's Battle

Donation protected
"As most of you are aware, Jason’s fight with NET cancer has been a long battle. Since November 2021, Jason has had increased nausea and weight loss, causing a rapid decline in his overall health. Since his diagnosis in 2018, we have tried multiple therapies- some that have worked for the short-term and some that did not. On December 30th, we were given the news that we always feared but hoped was further away- there are no other treatment options for Jason. The cancer is stronger than the medicine.

Jason has always been a fighter but over the last couple of days, he’s gotten considerably weaker. Today, Hospice has entered the picture. We don’t know how long we have with Jason, but we do know that our time is limited." -Dara Brown, January 11, 2022

As many of you know, Jason was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called Functional Neuroendocrine Tumor- NET- in October 2018. In Jason’s case, the cancer engulfed his liver in tumors that are mostly unaffected by treatment. This June, Jason received the news that his particular type of cancer had spread to his spleen and bones, largely affecting his abdomen and upper body and increases the pain he feels inside his body. At this point, Jason made the decision to continue with incredibly painful intravenous radiation in order to maintain the cancer and prolong his time with his family. This past Saturday morning, Jason was experiencing significant bruising in his torso and excruciating pain in his chest/shoulder area. Upon arriving at UPMC ER, Jason was transferred to the ICU at Roswell Cancer Institute where after several transfusions, Jason’s platelets have not been able to stabilize- as of this morning, Jason’s platelet count was at 9K when it should be around 150K. Unfortunately, the cause of low platelets has yet to be discovered as doctors continue to work towards answers. At this point in time, Jason has very little answers as to what is going on but has been given many different scenarios as to what may be causing this. Because of all of these factors, the doctors have advised Jason that his life going forward will be dramatically different.

Anyone who knows Jason knows him as a selfless, caring individual who lives and loves to serve. For the greater part of the past 21 years, Jason has worked as a volunteer Firefighter, EMT, and Paramedic in the communities in which he lives. Jason and Dara have been married for 9 years and have three beautiful 7-year-old triplets; Ethan, Joslyn, and Keira. Much to Jason and Dara's surprise they found out that they were expecting a baby boy due in February 2021, a week before Jason received the news that his cancer had spread to his spleen and bones.

Any help that is given is received with an incredible amount of gratitude.
