After several years of doctor visits, pokes and scans due to pain in his face and jaw, Jason was recently diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma. It started near his lip and has traveled through his nerve towards, and unfortunately according to recent scans, into a very delicate area in his brain.
He is not currently working so our income changed significantly a few months ago and we've been traveling frequently to Dallas for treatment.
Thankfully I have great insurance but the medical bills are still piling up quickly, so we are raising funds to help with medical and travel costs. Lodging is not an issue thankfully as we have family near Dallas that have welcomed us.
Jason is currently taking immunotherapy treatment, then will go through a surgery to remove the cancer and replace deteriorating bone in his jaw with bone from his leg on October 7th, then will go through radiation and chemotherapy treatment. During the surgery, recovery, and follow up treatment, I (Monica) will need to be off work temporarily to care for him. I have no idea how we'll make this work, but this is what we're doing.
This is a long road but we are very hopeful. We appreciate any and all help we've received and the outpouring of prayers, love and encouragement.
With love,
Jason and Monica Applegate and family
