Jason and Emily Emergency Fund

A few days ago California was struck by horrific lightning storms that  caused multiple fires throughout the state. Unfortunately, as many of you know, one of the fires struck Santa Cruz County.  Santa Cruz mountains is where my 2 year old daughter Emily and I live.  We were evacuated at 2:30am on Wednesday, August 19th.  We are fortunate to have a temporary place to stay, but will need to find a new place for at least two months, that is assuming the house is not gone.  We are staying with a dog, two cats, and my brothers whole family.  I’m allergic to pets and have asthma.

I know at least 4 of the 12 houses on my street burned down and if my house is still there, a big if when viewing the fire maps, the power and water will take a long time to get back.  Rents and availability in this area are very expensive. 2 bedroom apartments start around 3K/month.  With everyone displaced I fear it will be even more than that.  Emily is confused and scared.  I’m asking for financial help so I can find a temporary rental and potentially replace all of our belongings.  We are waiting to hear if they are still there.  It’s hard to ask for help, I’m generally willing to tough it out, but I need to find a safe and stable place for Emily as soon as possible.  She keeps asking for “daddy’s home” and saying she misses it.  I need to get a new one right away.
