Jason survived a rare, killer childhood illness few have overcome worldwide.
But in addition to saving his life, the healing interventions he received as a child have taken a toll on his body. Further intervention has been required for Jason to live his life to the fullest in this chapter of his adult life. As Jason does, he researched to find the most skilled specialists to give him the best care possible. His surgery was conducted by two highly skilled specialists in cardiovascular surgery who crafted a unique plan for Jason. On Monday April 13, 2020 Jason underwent an aortic valve replacement and coronary artery bypass. Due to many unforeseen complications related to his medical history, an entirely new approach while performing this procedure was designed.
His surgery was a success but due to an unexpected level of damage to his heart caused by the treatments he experienced as a child, his recovery has been complicated. His strength of spirit and support from Carla, his children, family & friends has gotten him through many ups and downs during his recovery journey. His recovery has been as been much longer than anticipated and will most likely will include a heart transplant. The original recovery was estimated to be 10 - 12 weeks however we now know it will be considerably longer.
Those of you who know Jason and his life's work know he is one of the most positive people you will ever meet. He took his early life experiences with illness and dedicated his career to ensure every hospital experience for patients and family, especially pediatric patients and families, is the best it can be!
Your prayers, good wishes & support for Jason and his family are deeply appreciated!
