This is Jasmine Solis’ story.

A story of determination, hope, and many sleepless nights. She is a first-generation Latina born and raised in Los Angeles, California. Jasmine is one of eight siblings, raised by parents who immigrated from Mexico in search of better opportunities. This August, Jasmine Solis will begin her PhD program. For many, that would already be an incredible achievement, but for Jasmine, it represents something even deeper. She will be the first-generation Latina woman in her family not only to reach this milestone but to have attended a university.

Jasmine’s path hasn’t been easy. She grew up surrounded by hardship, gang violence in her community, a broken home, and even periods of homelessness. Stability was never guaranteed. But even in the most difficult seasons of her life, Jasmine held on to one belief: education could change her future.

Jasmine has worked tirelessly to achieve one goal, a better and brighter future. This May, she will graduate with her bachelor's degree. With the grace of God and her efforts, Jasmine will have the opportunity to pursue higher education at the graduate level. Her goal is to achieve a PhD in psychology to be able to give back to her community. She wants to work with low-income households and military connected individuals to knock down stigmas and help all who struggle with mental health.

Starting a PhD program is both exciting and overwhelming. As Jasmine and her two younger brothers prepare to relocate and begin this new chapter, she is seeking support of any size. To be straightforward, the assistance would cover the cost of moving her and her two younger brothers across the country to for her PhD program. It would cover the moving truck company, security deposit, application fees, and first months rent to their new home. She isn’t just chasing her own dream, she’s showing them what’s possible.
