Jasmine for Sandra [Urgent Medical Help]

Sandra Gordiano

We’re living in a crazy, unpredictable time. But the one thing I can thank COVID for is realizing how fortunate we are to have family and friends. Never take advantage of the moments we get to spend with each other, especially those who may not be as close.

Many aren’t aware, but my mother moved to the United States when she was 17, leaving her entire family in Brazil. My immediate family has had the opportunity to fly down to Brazil when I was younger to visit my grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

While the language barrier has proven difficult for my brothers and I, we are beyond grateful for the relationship we’ve been able to have with our grandparents.

However, with COVID and the recent news, we haven’t been able to see our grandparents, like many have been experiencing.

My grandmother Sandra Gordiano is compassionate, selfless, and beautiful inside and out. With the very little she even has living on the outskirts of Feira de Santana, my grandmother still manages to give and love.

Sandra was recently diagnosed with a secondary cancerous brain tumor. The last couple of days, the doctors have been searching for the source, where the primary tumor may be. Since then, her cancer has metastasized to other parts of her body, including her respiratory and lymphatic systems.

The hospital Sandra is staying in does not provide basic care, so my aunt and step-grandfather have been struggling to make ends meet whilst taking care of her from the common room she’s kept in. Several tests are still needed to see how we can proceed with surgeries and possible amputation of her limb.

Cancer has affected many of our lives in some way, shape, or form. For Sandras birthday, and my birthday this year, I ask with the most grateful of hearts, that you help keep the beautiful smile on my grandmothers face as she battles this vicious disease.

One of Sandra's favorite flowers is Jasmine. For each donation, if the address is provided by email, I will watercolor a Jasmine plant and send it as a thank you from both myself and my grandmother.

When you receive the flower painting, feel free to post it on social media in memory of all those who we’ve lost to cancer, and who are currently battling!

(All donations will be sent for medical bills including; testing, hospital stay, ambulance rides to other testing sites, and medical supplies needed to keep my grandmother comfortable)

Te amo vó, fique forte. Continue sorrindo.

THANK YOU
