‘It’s a beautiful life’ –Jasiek Folga

Jasiek Folga is an extremely positive, vibrant person that brightens a room with his sense of humor and wit. He strives to live each day to the fullest by welcoming new opportunities and meeting every challenge with his trademark smile and backwards hat. ‘It’s a beautiful life’ is his phrase of choice, which he captures every moment of, on his GoPro, to share with others. His optimism and love of life can be seen in everything that he does. Jasiek’s passion in life has always been motorcycles, specifically dirt bikes. He once said “motorcycles are not my passion, I live to ride”. He competed in motocross and enduro at a high level in Poland and moved to Canada to turn his passion into a career. His talent was recognized and welcomed into the motocross community of Calgary, Alberta. He earned the nickname the ‘Polish Nighmare’ by winning races all over Western Canada. His natural athleticism could be seen on and off the track, he has even earned a title as an Alberta Judo champion. Jasiek has always been an individual with undeniable capability. After chasing his dream of motocross, he decided to return to Poland and finish the education he had previously put on hold. He completed his degree and master’s in engineering. Along the way he met his other half, Iwona. After finishing school Jasiek and Iwona moved back to Canada to start their life in a place that really felt like home, Calgary. Jasiek truly had his definition of ‘a beautiful life’ surrounded by the family he built and friends he made. He continued to pursue his passion of dirt biking by riding with his friends, hanging out at the track and taking riding trips as often as possible. On Saturday November 28, 2020, Jasiek sustained a life altering injury while dirt biking in BC. He fractured his L1 vertebrae that resulted in paralysis from the waist down. He has undergone emergency surgery and is now stable and in recovery at a Cranbrook area hospital. Jasiek, true to his character, is taking this new challenge head on while continuing to be positive and see the best in life. Jasiek’s next steps will be at a rehabilitation center probably in Vancouver. His recovery is dependent on a 10-week intensive rehabilitation program. Doctors have recommended this facility, as the treatment will give him the best chance of returning to a normal life. Please become a part of Jasiek's new journey by donating to support him in his recovery.
