Jasen's Fight Against Leukemia

Donation protected
Hi everyone, my name is Jessica Sommer, and I’ve been an ICU nurse at Overlake Hospital since 2018, which is where I met Jasen Luna. Not only were we coworkers since 2018, but we also became roommates and great friends since. Unfortunately, Jasen recently got diagnosed with B-cell Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL) and will be out of work for at least the next six months. To think that such a great person and nurse has to not only worry about this new medical diagnosis but also how to pay for treatment, all while not working, is very unfortunate. Therefore, on his behalf, our work family wanted to start this fundraiser to provide another means of monetary support for him and hopefully relieve some of the stress during this unimaginable time.

I speak on behalf of everyone who has had the pleasure of working alongside Jasen when I say that it is truly a joy. Jasen always has a joke on hand, followed by the most contagious laugh. He has one of those laughs where you can’t help but smile and laugh along with him. His knack for humor turns a regular work shift into an enjoyable one (and that can be very hard to do sometimes, honestly).

Jasen’s kindness is not only seen by his coworkers but also by his patients. If you don’t already know what the Daisy Award is, it’s an award given out every quarter to a nurse who is the top example of compassionate care and skill. Jasen not only got nominated for this award by his patients, but he won it…twice. The second time he won, it was actually for being “Daisy Nurse of the Year,” which we didn’t even know was an achievable award. These awards show how much he has touched the lives and hearts of his patients.

Jasen’s kindness extends beyond patient care, of course. If you know him personally, you know just what a generous human he is. Jasen’s generosity shines through, whether it's him picking up the tab without question or simply going out of his way to make time for or do something kind for his friends. Jasen is one of the most humble people I know and has difficulty asking for anything. This is our chance to pay him back.

You may be familiar with Jasen’s CaringBridge site, where you can get updates from him and sign up to help on a daily basis. This method, however, does not work for everyone, especially those who live far away or want to help in other ways. Treatment is expensive and insurance covers some of it, but will not cover the experimental treatments. The funds, therefore, will be used to pay for these medical bills and the costs of essentials like food and rent since Jasen won’t be able to work for the foreseeable future.

Please consider donating and sharing this page with your friends and family. Anything truly helps!

Thank you so much for considering!
