Bringing Todd Home

Where do you begin when asking people for help? Like my dad, I have never really been good at it. I'll start with how we got here. My dad, Todd, bought a new Harley-Davidson bike a few months back. A few of his firehouse friends decided they were going to go to Sergis this year. Something my dad had always wanted to do and he would be able to check this big life adventure off of his bucket list! The group left the morning of Friday July 31st. They were making great time when they entered Wyoming. That's when things took a turn for the worse. My dad was riding third in line when he felt like he was going to pass out. Before he could pull to the side of the road he blacked out and hit a mile marker. He then crashed into a field where his bike rolled on top of him. The guys circled back around because they did not see him. When they got to him they saw him trying to get up with no success. They immediately called the police. The Wyoming state police and state trooper responded where they decided Flight For Life needed to be called. Once they arrived they air lifted him to the nearest hospital which was Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff, NE. He sustained several injuries. Two fractured vertebrae (T4 & T5), several fractured ribs, a left leg fracture, and a right ankle fracture. Luckily he was wearing a helmet (good job daddy!!) Though he was was in a lot of pain, he was in stable condition. Later in the week he went into Afib with SVT. He was transferred to a different unit where he converted on his own. They moved him back to a less critical floor and he was going ok....a little sore but ok. That's when things turned again. A CT scan showed that he has a block in his intestine. The had to put an NG tube in his nose/stomach to pull all the crud out. It really seems to be helping but if he can not pass the block on his own he will need surgery. Just when we thought we couldn't take on any more, we got the news yesterday that they discovered he now has pnemonia due to aspirating his stomach contents into his lungs when he crashed. It has been a long few days at it seems like we get different news every single day. For that very reason, we want him home. We know he is going to need rehab and some adjustments to his house as he will need to be in a wheel chair for a little while those fractures heal. This is where you all come in. We have been beyond blessed and surprised at how many people have offered to help in any way possible. From prayers to meal offerings-you guys have all been amazing. Unfortionetly, insurance will not cover the transport home so we will be paying everything out of pocket. We ask that if you are able, please support us in getting my dad home. We feel he would do much better healing if he were around family and friends. No one should have to go through this alone. Thank you all for your outpouring of support. We are so very blessed to call you all friends and family. We love you!
