On the morning of July 9th Jarrod was rushed to the hospital by ambulance. Upon arriving, he found out his blood sugar was 600 and was in DKA which is diabetic ketoacidosis. He also has an infection somewhere is his body causing sepsis. Both alone can be fatal. They told him that had he not come in that morning he would have most likely not made it to Sunday morning. He was in the ICU for 3 days. He has been on 24 hour insulin drips and his blood sugar is at a more normal level around 120. Tuesday July 12th he had a procedure called a TEC (Trans esophageal cardiogram) where they put a fed a scope down his throat into a heart valve to see if his heart was septic, which is was not They are treating him as if it was, as a preventative. His blood and urine cultures are positive for sepsis. He will be in the hospital until the sepsis is no longer in his blood stream. Thursday he had a surgery for some wounds on his legs, that we now know we're not healing because of the diabetes. The surgery went great, but he is very uncomfortable and in extreme pain. The doctors are saying that once the sepsis is no longer in his blood stream. In the midst of typing all of this out today (7/14/22) we found out that he also has Mrsa on top of being septic.
I am writing this to ask for help for our family. Jay had been pretty much the only one working at the time. I served 2 shifts a week at vitales while jay watched the boys but am no longer able to. Jarrod had managed the Take Out at Vitales on Leonard for the last 5 years. He recently stopped working there and had just been approved for unemployment. He just turned in his social security card and proof of identity this afternoon once that gets approved he should get his 1st payment. Unemployment caps out at $400 unfortunately, before then he was making around $1,000 a week. We have 2 young kids in our home who are 4 and 5. Jarrod also has a 17yo daughter. He was the main financial provider paying our $1400/mo rent and every utility, equaling out to around 2 grand a month just in bills to keep a roof over our heads, lights, gas and water on. I get food stamps on the 19th of every month.
This unexpected medical emergency has really been a blow to our family. I am making this fundraiser to ask for financial help since it could be weeks until jay is able to come home, and he may not be able to work for a while after that. There's no tell or way to plan for anything right now with new diagnosis and bad news coming every day it seems like. We still have yet to pay our rent for the month of July and are days away from getting shut off notices for our utilities. Anything helps and no amount is too small.
I also have Cashapp, venmo and PayPal all under Lauren4twenty
