Jaritza's Open Heart Surgery Journey

I never imagined I’d be in a position to create something like this, especially for myself. What began as a routine ultrasound turned into something life-altering: the need for major open-heart surgery to replace my tricuspid valve—a rare and challenging procedure.

Since my original post, this journey has taken many emotional and unexpected turns. In March, I met with a hematologist who felt my case was too complex and referred me to another specialist. Soon after, I saw a rheumatologist who officially ruled out both lupus and MS—an incredible relief in the midst of so much uncertainty.

Then came a devastating moment. I consulted with a cardiac surgeon I initially hoped would be a good fit, only to later discover they’re facing a lawsuit for performing multiple surgeries at once—something that completely violated my trust and peace of mind.

After deep reflection, many prayers, and personal conversations with some of you, I made the decision to seek care at the Cleveland Clinic—one of the top-ranked hospitals in the country. One of the biggest factors in my decision was learning that they offer a highly probable option for minimally invasive surgery, something that could significantly ease recovery and reduce risks. My case has been submitted for review, and I’m now waiting to hear the best course of action for surgery.

Symptoms of severe tricuspid stenosis and regurgitation continue to affect my daily life. I’m still unable to work, and the financial pressure adds another layer of stress. I’ve done everything I can to seek other forms of support: I’ve secured medical insurance, applied for food assistance, and was recently approved for a small medical grant based on my diagnosis. While those steps help, they don’t cover the full scope of ongoing expenses—especially when preparing for travel, potential time away from home, and surgery itself.

Every donation—no matter the size—helps ease the burden of these out-of-pocket medical costs and supports me and my son as we navigate this uncertain season.

I’m not at 100%, but I’m doing everything I can to keep moving forward with strength and faith. Your support—whether through prayers, donations, or simply sharing this story—has helped carry me in ways I can’t fully describe.
