Jaric, 32, is a very hard-working family man with a beautiful wife and 3-year-old daughter.  He has dealt with Crohn’s Disease most of his life, dealing with the dietary restrictions and at times struggling with extreme discomfort and unhealthy weight loss, he managed to push this chronic disease into remission with the help of monthly doctor visits with medication infusions, during one of these visits, He was having some routine blood work done and his kidney function numbers came back abnormal. He was referred to a Nephrologist, who ordered a battery of tests which didn’t yield any answers, so a kidney biopsy was done. What was found is that on top of the Crohn’s Disease Jaric had been battling for years, He had IgA Nephropathy, also known as Berger’s Disease. IgA is a protein that helps your body fight infections. IgA Nephropathy is where your body makes too much of this protein and it builds up in the filters of the kidneys, causing chronic kidney disease and eventually kidney failure.

Since the diagnosis, Jaric has had a catheter for peritoneal dialysis placed and because he is now in Stage 5 kidney failure is doing daily dialysis. He has been placed on the transplant list at Swedish Hospital, and is waiting for a miracle that could take years.

 On top of the medical debt from years of doctor visits and countless bills just now arriving, the cost of just the kidney transplant surgery alone is about $400,000 with even the best insurance estimated to cover just 80% of these expenses. Jaric is trying to keep up his hours working on a local organic farm, but with the extreme discomfort and the very little energy that’s comes with dialysis, along with his ever-increasing hospital visits, maintaining a full-time work status is simply not feasible.  This is an impossible financial burden for him and his family.
