Jaret’s Medical Expenses for IgA Nephropathy

On Sunday March 5, Jaret went to the walk in clinic for stomach pain and nausea. Further work up revealed Jaret was in unexplained stage 5 kidney failure. At 25 years old, he had no prior health issues. He has been admitted to the hospital since Sunday night. Several days went past with no answers as testing was largely inconclusive - we simply watched his numbers worsen. Finally, after much stress and back-and-forth within the care team, he was cleared to have a kidney biopsy. Saturday March 11 we were informed he had irreversible damage to his kidneys, will require dialysis as a life sustaining measure, and will be placed on the kidney transplant list. He has been diagnosed with IgA Nephropathy.

Without question, his family has been by his side throughout this terrifying ordeal. Our lives have been put on hold. Unfortunately, Lexus’ employer (a healthcare agency no less) did not feel that Jaret’s health issues were important enough to warrant her missing work. She was given the option to go PRN (“as needed”) or quit, in which she was given no choice due to the current situation.

Due to the high costs of obtaining a kidney transplant, the loss of one income, and the medical expenses accrued so far, I am setting up this GoFundMe for Jaret and Lexus. I know they would never ask for help, but several people have already reached out to assist. His fellow officers have rallied behind Jaret, donating time off and accommodating the uncertainty. I believe in the power of community to help each other in times of need - and currently the need is great. Anything is appreciated!
