My name is Jaren Serano. For the past two years, I have worked at the BFREE Biological Field Station in southern Belize as a Science and Education Fellow. After completing my fellowship at the end of 2019, my goal is to attend a University in the USA to complete my undergraduate degree. So far, I have been accepted to the University of South Florida and I am also exploring other options.
My dreams are big and I am fueled by perseverance and passion, I hope to leave a lasting impact in this field of conservation. I believe with this opportunity I will not only be benefiting myself but can in turn benefit my country and the conservation field as a whole. I've already completed my Associate's Degree in my home country of Belize. The next step in my journey is to finish my Bachelor's in Conservation Biology where I will continue to expand the knowledge that I have gained through my prior education and my work with BFREE and the Turtle Survival Alliance on the critically endangered Central American River Turtle.
Ultimately, with my degree, I plan to return to my country to help protect and preserve the biodiversity of Belize and also to help open doors and create pathways for other Belizean students who are driven by passion and are ready to make changes in the world.
My tuition will be $11,500.00 and I will also incur expenses of room, board, books, and flights to and from Belize, which will add approximately $15,000.00 for the first year. The total expenses will be approximately $26,500.00 for each of two years.
I've been saving money for my tuition and I have been granted a $2,000 scholarship per year from my employer, Belize Foundation for Research and Environmental Education (BFREE), however, the balance is still well beyond what I can afford. Therefore, I am asking for your financial assistance to help me achieve my dream.
