Son - Brother - Coach - Husband - Daddy
Jared Smith had a double lung transplant on May 2nd, 2023 after living with Cystic Fibrosis his whole life. He will be in the hospital for at least the next month with appointments 1-3 times a week, back at the hospital, in the months following. During the first six months, there is an increased risk of infection and rejection so frequent and routine visits are necessary. His wife will be traveling back and forth to help care for him and their two 19-month-old twins at home. Jared will have to go without seeing the babies and avoid public places for several months as his immune system will be trying to balance out the new lungs and medications.
For the past year, Jared's activity level has been little to non-existent due to his lung function. This new gift of life is going to give him the ability to live and play with his two babies and wife. He is a teacher and softball coach at Barbers Hill. He has been giving back to the community in that role for 10 years. He's looking forward to recovering and getting back to the active lifestyle that kept him healthy much longer than doctors anticipated.
