Jared Schultz and Jenna Gergen were married in October of 2021 in sunny San Diego, California. While there, Jared started experiencing pain that would come and go. He underwent testing after returning to North Dakota and a mass was discovered. He was immediately scheduled for surgery to remove the mass, which was sent off for further testing. After several long weeks of waiting and having his test results forwarded to Mayo Clinic, Jared was diagnosed with testicular cancer. Doctors were optimistic that it had all been removed during his surgery but closely monitored Jared over the next few months.

In March 2022, during his 3-month checkup, it was discovered that the cancer had spread to lymph nodes in his chest and abdominal area. Beginning April 19th, he started his first of three rounds of intense chemotherapy which is expected to include at least 15 inpatient days in the hospital. Jared will be unable to work during this time due to elevated risk of infection and compromised lung function from the treatment. Jared and Jenna are expecting the birth of their first child in early May.

Jared and Jenna are just beginning their lives together. Jared is always smiling and has a positive outlook even with the heavy news they have been dealt. The costs of medical treatment are expected to be substantial. Additionally, they have and will continue to incur costs related to fertility preservation.
