We are in need of support and generosity for my son Jared who needs a lung transplant. Jared began having difficulty breathing about 2 years ago that we just assumed was asthma related. Around September of 2024 he realized he was having increased difficulty with breathing and was was getting light headed. He went to Urgent Care and unfortunately his lungs sounded "clear" and his lung disease was missed.
Over the last few months Jared has had a significant amount of weight loss and recently weighed in at 121 pounds. In February 2025 he began experiencing stomach pains so intense that he went to the ER. It was there they asked him if he had any other issues and he mentioned he has trouble breathing and thankfully they took an xray and referred him to a pulmonolgist who diagnosed him with pulmonary fibrosis. After a CT Scan, breathing tests, bronchoscopy, and lung biopsy they believe that he has sarcoidosis which progressed into his lungs by Covid in 2022. The disease has caused scarring in his lungs that make it difficult for the lungs to expand. There is no cure for this disease and the damage to the lungs cannot be reversed. He is on steroids with the hope they can reduce some inflammation and stop progression.
Jared has been referred to the University of Washington for the prelung program and we are currently waiting for his first evaluation. Due to his difficulty breathing, Jared has been unable to work since February and is still waiting for disability to come through. Travel expenses are already racking up since his Dr. isn't located in his town, and will only increase once he starts traveling back and forth to Seattle when we start adding lodging and food. In addition, it is crucial for him to take extra care of his immune system because of the medication he is on essentially weakens it. Proper vitamins and healthy foods to decrease inflammation are very important to keep his strength for recovery from a lung transplant. Travel expenses and proper nutrition can be difficult on a limited income as well as the expenses that will come with recovery from a lung transplant. We are very grateful for any donations to help Jared along this journey.
