At approximately 2:30am on Friday April 3rd, 2015, a fire spread across a group of apartments and local businesses in the historical part of downtown Whitby, Ontario.
Jared and Chelsea, two of the residents affected by this tragedy, are a young couple, in their early 20's, originally from Oshawa and London. They recently moved to Whitby looking for their first start together, a few weeks prior to the fire. They had searched for weeks to find 'their perfect place' and had finally found it located in one of the apartments within the downtown core. After a hectic move in day, they finally had their first home! Sadly, a month to the day, that all changed. Most of their personal belongings, though not burned, are damaged as a result of water and smoke and will have to be disposed of.
This couple is highly praised by their family, friends and co-workers. Encountering them for the first time, you can immediately tell what kind, caring and generous people they are. Throughout this rough time in their lives, they are staying positive and trying to make the best of things. After being woken up and told to leave their home due to a fire, they both showed up only hours later that same day to their work places and completed their scheduled shifts. They are definitely a strong and determined young couple.
Any help is greatly appreciated! If you have the time, please help share Jared and Chelsea's story. Together our small acts of kindness will help make a big difference in their lives.
