The Legacy of Jared Selly
Donation protected
We lost a loving son, supportive brother, dedicated friend, and reliable community member on September 25, 2019. Jared Selly devoted his life to serving others and his legacy is measured in lives saves, laughs shared, and “I love yous” spoken. To honor Jared and carry forward his generous spirit, we’re creating the Jared Selly Legacy Scholarship at Faribault (MN) High School.
This fund will ensure that future social workers, counselors, and community professionals are supported and given the same opportunity Jared had to positively impact the lives of people in need. Please join us in supporting the Jared Selly Legacy Scholarship fund by donating in Jared’s memory and by sharing your memories of Jared.
Thank you.
(Scholarship funds will be managed by the Falcon Trust with the goal of $1000 per year awarded for the next 8 years or as long as possible)

“Jared Selly was an amazing human being who always put others before himself. Jared was known for being the life of the party, his hugs, and his huge, kind heart. Jared loved to put smiles on others’ faces and help people in need. I believe Jared’s greatest memories were playing football his senior year at FHS where he was a captain of the team and served on the homecoming court.
Jared was also a very intelligent and believed in having a great education. These are the reasons why a scholarship in Jared’s honor makes perfect sense. Everyone loved Jared and Jared loved everyone.”

“There are very few people in this world that truly know what Jared meant to me, but now is the time to share this story. Jared is and always will be my lifesaver and I mean that in the actual sense of the word. Jared and I lived in the same neighborhood as kids and we quickly bonded, as we both tended to be the bigger guys out of the group. This friendship truly grew through the years to the point that we both were convinced our parents compelled the school district to separate us, as you never knew if it was going to be a love or hate day between us. Regardless of how the day went Jared was always there for me and that is why I now will tell you how he saved my life.
I, like so many others, suffer from depression. My battle with mental health began in elementary school, and although most days were good it, was always Jared that would keep me going on the bad ones. Even more spectacular is that it was Jared that found me on one of my darkest days in middle school and he was able to compel me not to pull the trigger. His ability to talk me down in our young age was simply incredible and is truly the only reason I am still alive today. That is part of the reason I am so incredible saddened by his passing as I wish I could have returned his action. Sadly, that is not possible, so I now want to ensure his passion for others lives on as I know his ability to impact lives didn’t end with me as he continually shared stories with me about his career as a social worker. I know for a fact he was a living angel. Thank you for joining me in supporting this scholarship to honor Jared Selly.”

“Life can be frustrating. Some days the highs don’t balance the lows, negativity outperforms positivity, and our connected world leaves us feeling more disconnected than ever. These aren’t abnormal feelings. We all experience loneliness, or despair, or sadness, but if we’re lucky, we have something or someone who brightens our darkest days. For me, Jared Selly was one of those lights.
If I found myself overwhelmed with the growing cynicism that accompanies adulthood, a conversation with Jared filled me with childlike optimism. He had the ability to find the good in everyone where others couldn’t see it. He knew what made everyone special and wouldn’t let them forget it. And if all else failed, he’d wrap you in a bear hug or fill the room with his infectious belly laugh. Most of the time, you’d experience both.
With this scholarship fund, I hope we can grace the world with more lights like Jared who have the ability to find and help people when they need it most. There was only one Jared Selly, but the world can never have enough people like Jared Selly. I’d ask that you give in his honor and keep his own words in your heart:
‘At the end of the day, Love prevails. Be kind to yourself and your fellow sisters and brothers. Share of yourself, so that there is always light in the face of darkness.’”
