Jared Ricks was a beloved, talented young man. He was a musician who was making waves in the local music scene of Victoria BC. He was specifically known for his magnetic, engaging, and charasmatic performances with his band Fractured Anatomy. Jared was particularly respected for his exceptional guitar playing, powerful vocals, and intuitive sense of heavy rhythm.

He was deeply loved by his many friends and family. He was blessed to have many different circles of people; he was a son, a chosen son, a brother, a nephew, a good friend, a chosen brother. All of whom would agree that he was the kind of guy who, if you were sitting at party feeling uncomfortable, he would notice and reach out to you. He was the kind of guy who, if he ever slighted you (even if he only imagined so), he would do his best to make amends. He was the kind of guy who, if you were a guest in his home, he would always offer you something; he was generous and kind.

For most of his life, Jared suffered from a seizure disorder. Over the years he tried many different methods, medicines, and therapies to relieve his symptoms. Unfortunately, the seizures became more frequent and intense over time.

Jared passed from a seizure in his sleep on December 29th, 2018, at 23 years old, to the shock of his friends and family.

This is known as SUDIE, Sudden Death in Epilectics. This phenomena can happen to anyone with a seizure disorder, even if the seizures are controlled. He was only two months away from receiving brain surgery that could have significantly relieved his suffering and improved his condition.

A collaboration of his friends and family are now coming together to put on 2 nights of live music (October 17/18, 2019) performed by bands in his local community to honour his memory and raise money for epilepsy research.

Sudden Death in Epileptics has been on the rise, with a growing number of patients passing while waiting for treatment. We, his friends and family, seek to support the victims of this condition by fundraising for epilepsy research to prevent this from happening to others.

To this end, we are asking for your donations to support the costs of putting on an event to raise money and awareness. Our goal is $3,500 to go towards promotion, the cost of the venue and the equipment required.

Please help us make a difference in the lives of others.

Than you very much,
