Jared Gehm Memorial Scholarship

Donation protected
The Jared B. Gehm Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Jared, a Preble High School student who was an enthusiastic Cross Country and Track & Field team member. Past Scholarship winners are from Green Bay Preble, West, East, Southwest, Ashwaubenon, Notre Dame Academy, and NEW Lutheran High Schools.
Since 2008 a 5k Family Fun Run has been held to raise money for the memorial scholarship. The 2017 event, set for June 24th (see link below) will be the 10th and final event.  Registration and donations can be made by mail, check or money order.
This GoFundMe campaign is intended to provide a way to donate online. It was put together by Green Bay West '82 classmates of Jared's mom, Mary Baranczyk. Money raised here will allow more athletes to earn scholarships in memory of Jared. Please help us  show the Gehm family our support by making this the biggest scholarship fund yet.

Meet Jared (a message from his family)
Jared was born June 16th, the Saturday before Father's Day. Jared experienced the typical events of any child. He had successes and failures. He excelled in school and in sports. Jared attended pre-school at Holy Martyrs on Finger Road. There he established friendships that he would enjoy for life. From grades K-8 he attended St Bernard Catholic School on Hillside Lane. He was a constant on the High Honors roll call. For the Bears he played soccer, basketball, and ran track. He also played soccer for the Green Bay Strikers and Green Bay Lightning. He played football for the St Philip Falcons one year. For the last five years while attending St Bernard, he kept an eye on his younger sister and brother. Jared entered Preble High School with hopes of playing soccer. He did not make the team and that is when he turned his attention to running. He was encouraged to try XC and he literally took off. His running became his focus. He again excelled academically, being selected for the NHS, and trained for running. Two-a-day runs were not uncommon. Jared was a contributing member of PHS winning XC teams of 2005 & 2006. Jared's spring sport was distance in Track. In April of 2007 he won his first single event - the 3200 in the Kennedy Field House at Lincoln High School in Manitowoc. Jared died April 15th, 2007 by suicide. We don't know what happened or what could have been Jared's thinking on the night he died. All we know is that Jared was a wonderful, compassionate, loving, caring, young man who would have made a difference in the world. Jared's family will be adding to this page as we are able to, but as I write this I become exhausted with grief and love. Grief for losing Jared and love for what Jared was. Love for and from our family as we continue on this very unexpected journey.
Thank you for visiting,
Jared's Dad
