'Help Peter see Japan while he can'

Donation protected
Dear friends,

I am so, so hoping for your support to help fulfill my brother Peter's greatest wish while he still can: to be able to experience the beauty and serenity of Japan with his girl and little boy within the next year.

As some of you may already have heard: a routine check after hitting his head in November revealed unidentified patches on his brain MRI. In January 2018, after two months of uncertainty and an invasive, scary medical procedure to get a sample of one of these patches, we got the devastating news that my awesome brother Peter, 43, will lose his life to malignant brain tumors. They are incurable because of the position and scattering throughout the right part of his brain. He has been ‘given’ a life expectancy of around 5 years and will most likely not turn 50. This comes after finally having beaten colon cancer just 7 years ago. It’s so unfair he will not grow old with Janine, the love of his life nor see his greatest joy, his 1 y/o boy Mika, grow up. In turn, Janine and Mika and all of us will have to find a way to make the most of life after Peter is no longer with us. We have no idea how, but of course, we will.

While we are still in absolute shock and denial, afraid of the uncertain but painful road ahead, feeling incredibly sad and powerless thinking of having to say goodbye, we are also very grateful there is still some time left. This is a great gift which we very much appreciate. We so hope he will have a few relatively ‘healthy’ years although we know this period will start with chemo therapy in an attempt to slow down the cell growth. We are all very much set on making the most of the little time he has left, no matter what. Making memories, being together, sharing our thoughts and feelings. They have expressed the wish to be as positive as possible, to enjoy the simple joys of life.

Since I can remember he has longed for Japan. Being an amateur photographer in heart and soul, he can’t wait to see the cherry blossom, or the leaves turn red. A trip like that has always been a dream for later, but suddenly he is running out of time. After the renovation of their new home just a month before the diagnosis, their funds have run completely dry. I would give anything to help him fulfill his dream and I will, but it’s hardly enough. We have estimated that a two week trip will cost a minimum of 5000 euros for the three of them. This includes the flight from Holland to Japan, transportation and hotel costs. It would be so fantastic if they could embark on this dream by September or October 2018, while he is hopefully still able to. This means we need to reach the goal within just a few months.

If you could help him and our family by making a donation, however small, we would be so immensely grateful.

If you cannot help financially, please consider sending a personal message of positivity. Thank you so, so much.

 Sincerely, and gratefully yours,

 Mara Lammertzen,
proud sister of the most awesome brother in the world
