Jan's Double Lung Transplant
Donation protected
Hello everyone! My name is Jean Leyder and I am starting this fundraiser for my twin sister, Jan Rodriguez. In 2008 Jan was diagnosed with COPD. She has been battling the disease since then and it has recently progressed to the point that she is now in need of a double lung transplant at the young age of only 59 years old due to her now end-stage COPD. This GoFundMe is set up to assist in associated expenses of a double lung transplant that will be at University of California San Francisco hospital in San Francisco, CA After multiple trips to UCSF and appointments with various treatment teams such as pulmonologists and social workers we are learning that the cost is quite substantial. These costs involve lodging, as we will be staying in San Francisco for almost two months following surgery, and other unforeseen expenses related to the double lung transplant.
Jan is currently in a pulmonary rehabilitation exercise program and is doing her best to keep up her strength and physical condition although it is very difficult for her at times. She rarely goes out because it is just too exhausting for her and she is very limited on the distance she is able to walk.
Jan is the person that has always taken care of everyone else and she is now in a position where she is needing assistance from others. We were told that fundraising is a part of the transplant process due to the enormous out of pocket expense. These expenses are nothing in comparison to her goals for post-transplant which are simply to be able to see her three grand-children grow up as well as meeting other future grand-children and creating lasting memories with all of her family members.
We will be posting updates as we go!

Thank you in advance for your thoughts, prayers, or any size donation.
