The memorial for Janie was held at West Broward Church of Christ on Saturday, June 9th.

In lieu of sending flowers, please consider making a small donation. The funds raised here will be used for Harley's and Arabella's education to help ease the many burdens that are coming.  An update: in less than 24 hours we exceeded the goal I thought was too high. GoFundMe doesn't limit total donations, and anything beyond the goal will continue to go to Harley and Arabella's college fund. At the suggestion of many friends we are upping the goal of this fund to $25,000.


Janie and Nick's story began when they were kids in high school, and it was meant to go on for a lifetime.  They are parents to two beautiful and intelligent girls, Harley and Arabella.  Arabella is almost two years old and is a feisty and fun girl who loves to wear sundresses and play with her older sister.  Harley is 8 years old and loves gymnastics, judo, reading, and taking care of her little sister. 




Janie has always been a fierce and fun-loving spirit who loves books, all things Disney and Harry Potter, and above all her family.  In late 2015, Janie and Nick were overjoyed to find out that their family of three would be growing to a family of four.  A few months later they received the worst news - while pregnant with Arabella, Janie was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer.  But being the fierce woman that she is, she did everything in her power to keep her baby safe and to fight for her family.  
 



Nick is a teacher who comes from a family of educators, and education is of the utmost importance in the Duarte household.  In fact, Harley loves school and got a nearly perfect score on her state exams this year!   The funds raised here will be used for Harley's and Arabella's education to help ease the many burdens that are coming.
