On November 16th, Ate Janice was admitted to UCMed, Cebu after experiencing excruciating pain in her back, and losing feeling in her lower extremities as well as control of her bowel and bladder functions. The doctors discovered fluid surrounding her spinal cord from the T4 to T10 vertebrae that needed to be surgically removed immediately.
The 6-hour surgery took place on November 20th. Through God’s grace, the medical team successfully removed the abscess around her spine, leaving a long incision on her back.
Ate Janice is now out of ICU, but the road to recovery will be quite long and extremely demanding, with physical therapy part of her daily regimen. She is unable to move her lower extremities and will need 24-hour support from two caregivers. Antibiotics have been prescribed to fight off infections and insulin will need to be taken daily to regulate her high blood sugar and expedite her healing.
Unfortunately, Ate Janice does not have medical insurance, so these costly medical bills have to be paid out-of-pocket. With the help of family, $30,000 USD was paid to cover the surgery, and a portion of her hospital stay to date. Ate Janice needs additional funds for remaining hospital bills and future medical expenses (physical therapy, doctors’ visits, medication, medical supplies, and personal assistance). This is why we are reaching out to you, Ate Janice’s family and friends. First, so you can join us in holding her in prayer as she continues to recover, and second, for donations to help cover her future medical expenses, totaling $50,000 USD.
Ate Janice has always been willing to help others, and now we are invited to share our kindness and generosity with her. Please consider donating whatever you can to support Ate Janice’s recovery efforts and offset her costly medical expenses. Any amount you can provide would be greatly appreciated. We are grateful for your prayers and however you can support Ate Janice, Tita Fe and our family during this difficult time.
