Welcome to the official GoFundMe page for our dear mother, Janice, who has transitioned to her heavenly home on June 23, 2020. This has taken us all by surprise. She’d been complaining about not feeling well for awhile, and though we’ve arranged her to see doctors, there was never a prognosis that had cause for this type of concern. After years of battling sickness, she passed peacefully in her sleep and we’re truly grateful that she isn’t suffering anymore. And because she’s spent her life in service of others, we want to give her the commemoration she deserves.
She was outspoken, funny, loved and well-respected by all. Some of you knew her as the singer, as she had a beautiful voice and inclination to performing. Others of you knew her as thee go-to for the latest movie, as she was an avid movie collector. And NOBODY could turn down her MacNCheese, fried chicken or delicious cakes. Above all else, she was a caretaker. She spent most of her life as a homemaker and once our father passed, she continued to provide care for other children in the neighborhood so she’d be able to financially support herself.
Her income has always been very limited and so she spent the last 18 years living with my daughters and I. Oftentimes staying with different family members if necessary. It was a struggle financially, but we made the best of our situation. As life and finances were beginning to take a positive turn, we were able to take steps to acquiring life insurance for mom. Unfortunately, she passed away before we could finalize a policy.
The purpose of this fund is to raise enough money to give our mother the best send off. We’d like it to be big enough to include as many family and friends as possible, so we can collectively show her the love she’s shown all of us. We want to celebrate her beautiful life! The amount we’d like to raise is $4,000. This will cover costs of the venue and any vendors that may be needed; it will also ensure we create a comfortable environment that respects social distancing guidelines due to Covid-19.
Once we’ve reached our goal or close to it, we’ll be able to finalize specific event details and promptly send updates to you all personally.
