Many of you may know Janice Hollingshead, Tim, Rob, and Malinda Honeycutt’s Mom, but what you may not know is she suffered 2nd and 3rd degree burns on the back of her legs up to her waist from a freak accident while at home on January 11th.
She was transported four and a half hours face down in an ambulance from Johnson City to Vanderbilt Burn Center in Nashville, where she has been for almost three weeks now. She has endured pain levels very few of us could possibly imagine. So far she's had two skin graft surgeries and we are praying the grafts continue to heal and don’t get infected. Once she is able to be released from Vanerbilt, she will be transported to a rehab facility for at least two additional weeks. It’s taken an emotional toll on all of us, but for obvious reasons Janice has suffered the most.
While in the hospital trying to heal, her husband of 30 years has been in and out of the hospital with health concerns. Mike has been admitted to the VA hospital and is receiving the professional care he requires. Her good friend and neighbor unexpectedly past away as well as a close friend from church, making her daily struggle to stay positive even more difficult.
Thankfully, her daughter Malinda has been there with her from day one. She has been the eyes, ears, mouth and hands of compassion for us back here at home. Malinda has taken an unpaid family leave of absence with no vacation time to cover basic and extended expenses. Fortunately friends have stepped up to take care of Malinda's teenage daughter, while she is supporting her mother. Many other friends and family have graciously offered to help, so I thought this was a great avenue to allow them to do so. Understandably, there's truly nothing we can do to take away the daily pain and emotional struggle from this horrible tragedy. However, those of us who love Janice can help in small ways to alleviate the financial stress she and her family are experiencing.
Although her family would be too proud to ask us publicly, I know they would be truly humbled and grateful! Sincere Thank You to everyone in advance for your love, concern and offerings. Please continue to send positive thoughts and prayers for Janice and her family.
