January 18th, 2025, Janice first noticed a lump in her right breast. On January 22nd, she had an appointment that was strictly a touch exam where she was told that it was smooth, symmetrical and those were all good signs. She was referred to UNMC on February 10th, where they did a mammogram, ultrasound, and immediate biopsy. Three days later, ultrasound and pathology results confirmed that it was indeed cancer - Stage 3 Aggressive Ductile Carcinoma HER2 positive. Not only does Janice have breast cancer but it has spread to her lymph nodes as well.

A week later, she met with her UNMC Oncology Team, and was quickly scheduled for an echocardiogram, PET Scan, and port surgery. Her port was installed on a Wednesday and she started chemo the following Monday.

Since chemo has started, Janice has not been able to work. Her journey has just begun as she has completed 2 rounds of chemotherapy. She will have to complete another 4 rounds before they can perform a lumpectomy. Once the surgery is done, she will then have another year of treatment in front of her.

While her care at UNMC has been incredible, Janice will be left with astronomically large bills; chemo treatments, surgeries, medications and everyday needs.

Right now, our goal is to raise enough money to help Janice pay for living expenses, utilities, medications, and her day to day needs while she fights this battle.
