Hi my name is Cara, and this accident was involving my brother Jake and our mom Janet. I received a phone call last evening that they were in a serious car accident, when the RV they were driving was rear ended by a semi on I-10 in New Mexico.
Jake has substantial injuiries to himself, but his main concern is for our mom and his beloved dogs.
Mom was in the passenger seat when the accident happened. She had to be cut out of the seat and fortunately Jake was able to rescue her and managed to get the propane shut off in the RV before something worse could have happened.
Moms injuries are substantial and currently in ICU. She has a fractured spine, fractured vertebrae in her neck, a broken hand, and massive internal bruising, which is causing a lot of swelling in her chest cavity, causing heart problems currently.
They also are missing one of their 3 dogs, the second one is being euthanized due to a broken back as well and the 3rd one is ok. The semi driver blamed my brother for not having lights on his RV and Truck, even though the police confirmed that was not the case, as my brother had driven past the police just a few miles prior and all the lights were working. The Semi driver rear ended my family, the police confirmed he was going about 92 mph.
my mom and brother literally own nothing, and lost everything in this crash. They only barely bought this RV, in the last month, for about $1,000 and this was there home. The only other possession they had was the pickup truck, which was also totally destroyed in he wreck. All of their photos, and personal effects were destroyed in the crash, and were either spread across the road or pickup up when the scene was cleaned up.
We as a family are doing what we can, but there will be extensive medical bills, for my mom, not to mention trying to find a place to live (as of now they are homeless) and new vehicle, and vet bills for the pups. They are on very limited income,(disability and only Social Security as my mom is 70). Anything anyone can donated toward helping this family get back on their feet would be welcomed. If you only want to donate anonymously, that would be appreciated.
We are grateful that they are both still alive. God is on their side for sure.
