Fund Janet to get a Omeo wheelchair

Hi my name is Kate and I am raising money by doing a sponsored swim in the English Channel for my friend Janet McMorran

When Janet was 24 years old, she tried to take her own life, which led her to be in the Spinal unit at Oswestry Hospital for over a year, coming out in a wheelchair and paraplegic

Janet never wanted to be looked at differently and was determined to live as much as an able bodied life as she could,

She found a job,met her husband Will they married and had 3 children.

In the late 80s Janet discovered wheelchair tennis a sport she had always loved

Never loosing sight of hope Janet went on to play in 4 paralympics in wheelchair tennis

After 50 years in a wheelchair, playing tennis and using her arms to make countless transfers her elbows have developed serious osteoarthritis

Janet has also lost the sight in her left eye of which Doctors have told her she must keep fit and healthy

For these reasons Janet is now in need of a chair that doesn't require her to use her arms

This chair which has been described by people that use it, as the closest thing to walking and a true sense of freedom.

So I have decided to set myself a challenge to do a sponsored swim to raise money. I will be swimming 1500 meters in the English Channel

I have been helping Janet for 9 years now, she truly is an inspiration, proving that no matter your circumstances you can continue to thrive and prosper, that you should never give up hope of living the life you deserve

I know how much this wheelchair will benefit Janet in her day to day life, keeping her fit and enabling her to live a life of independence vitally needed for her health and well-being

The chair will cost £18000 we are hoping to get assistance from other charities as well

The swim will take place on the 8th June
