Jane Southworth Fund
Donation protected
Jane Southworth is a hearty New Englander who has been an engaged member of her VT, NH and Massachusetts communities for more than six decades. A lover of English history, a long-time volunteer at the Marlboro Festival, a powerful advocate for local libraries and a card-carrying member of her local Brattleboro, VT co-op, Jane has lived a wonderful life and made many wonderful friends along the way, including during her higher education stops at Mt Holyoke, Columbia and Boston College.
Many of you have already heard of Jane Southworth’s current struggle with pneumonia. Unfortunately, on August 16th Jane began feeling unwell and was emergency transferred by ambulance to a level 2 trauma center in Bridgeport, Connecticut for a procedure to help fight an urgent medical issue related to the infection.
After a procedure to drain fluid from her lung, she struggled in the days after the recovery and her heart stopped twice. We thought we’d lost her. Yet in the week after, Jane has rallied, showing the New England grit and determination she was known for. She is not out of the woods yet—and has been in and out of the ICU during the past week—but has since made slow, steady progress toward stability and breathing on her own. The hospital staff at St Vincent’s has been wonderful and they report she’s been feisty, as is her way.
While necessary, the unfortunate side of this journey is that Jane is now more than two hours away from her friends and community. Her daughter has flown across the country as her primary support during this tenuous time. Since many of Jane’s long-time friends have made incredibly generous offers to help defray the unforeseen costs of care, caregiver travel and an eventual supported transition back to rehab in Vermont, we have established this Go Fund Me to help support Jane and her daughter emotionally and financially through this intense time.
We appreciate all the offers and gifts of support and please keep Jane’s fight to regain her health and return to Vermont in your hearts and minds.
