WELCOME EVERYONE!
Thanks for visiting our GoFundMe page! This fund has been set up to support Jane, Brian, Lucie & baby Logan Scharnberg. We appreciate all of you who spontaneously sent money to support the family in the first few weeks of Logan's life. This page will make that process easier and more accessible for those near and far. Below you'll find the "BACKSTORY"- a little history about Logan's harrowing journey to join our family, and the initial family needs immediately following his birth. Beyond that, be sure and check out the "UPDATES" section below to learn more about Logan's progress and the family's current needs in 2022. Lastly, feel free to share the fundraiser link with family, friends and colleagues who may want to contribute. We appreciate your generosity.
BACKSTORY:
After a difficult 1st pregnancy with Lucie and multiple health complications, Jane and Brian were told she would likely never be able to have biological children again- less than 1% chance. Her fallopian tubes were completely blocked and the uterus was full of scar tissue. It would be nearly impossible for an egg to fertilize, let alone implant anywhere habitable in the uterus. Lucie, at 10 years old, was "lonely in quarantine" and "prayed for a sibling," and the doctors were proved wrong.
Jane became pregnant in the fall with a little spirit that desperately wanted her and Brian to be his parents, and Lucie to be his sister. Baby Logan was intent on being born despite all the cards stacked against him. (No one should ever count this little guy out because I'm sure this isn't the last time he proves everyone wrong!)
The pregnancy was a breeze until 25 weeks when Jane's water broke in the middle of the night. She was admitted to the hospital on February 3rd, 2021 and put on bed rest and there she remained for almost 8 weeks. The doctors weren't sure when she arrived that Jane would be able to maintain the pregnancy for one week longer, but she did. And then another. And another. And another. Logan was born late in the evening on March 29th, 2021 at 32 weeks. He was 4 pounds 11 ounces, 17" long and 8 weeks premature. We are grateful and blessed that Jane had the fortitude and energy to make it through the taxing ordeal, and Logan had the fighting spirit and energy to make the very long, difficult journey to join us...but that was not the end of the journey.
Jane went straight into major surgery after the C-section, and Logan was transported to CHOC (Children's Hospital of Orange County) for intensive care. Jane was released and is recovering at home. Logan remains at the hospital and has undergone multiple surgeries to repair his lungs and GI tract. There's one more major surgery planned, but timing will depend on Logan's recovery and growth. Docs will assess how he's doing in another 6 weeks. If he's not yet ready, they will assess in another 6 weeks. The 4th and final surgery will connect his esophagus to his stomach, and afterward he will remain in the hospital for intensive therapy to ensure he can eat and process food through his mouth before heading home. He will likely not be home until summer 2021.
WHAT THEY NEED:
On average, a daily stay in the hospital costs approximately $10,000. Jane was in the hospital for 8 weeks, and Logan will likely remain in hospital care for another 3-6 months. You can do the math. The family's medical bills will be astronomical, and that doesn't take into account further care that might be needed once baby Logan comes home (physical therapy, occupational therapy etc).
We want to help them land softly, and eliminate the stress that medical bills can place on a family that's dealing with far greater issues. No one likes to ask for money, but I'm a firm believer in the law of attraction. The energy you put out into the world is the energy that comes back to you. If you've ever been around Jane, Brian and Lucie you know they are seriously amazing humans. They put a ton of love out into the world through their work, their kindness & compassion, their music and their friendships. It's our turn to bring that love full circle. I've set the initial GoFundMe weekend launch goal at $5,000, but we're hoping to well exceed that goal!
Your generous contributions will be used to pay for outstanding and future medical bills and living expenses while the family navigate Logan's extended hospital stay and ongoing care. Please give what you can. $5, $10, $100, $1000. Every donation counts and is greatly appreciated!
GRATITUDE:
Here's what I know for sure, it takes a village to raise a child, and we are grateful for the kind, loving and generous village that surrounds this amazing family. Thank you for all you've done to support them along their journey, and thank you for considering financial support through this GoFundMe page. We will never be able to repay your kindness & generosity, but I'm positive you'll feel the love when you see this little miracle baby named Logan come home!
