Donations for Supporting My Mother and Sister
Donation protected
My name is Amanda Kent, and I am writing to seek financial donations for my mother, Joanne Corkery, as our family faces a very challenging and painful road ahead. My little sister Jananne is currently fighting for her life. Last week, she was diagnosed with one of the largest brain aneurysms on record at Bellevue Hospital following an array of diagnostic tests, including a CT scan, MRI, and angiography.
A collaborative team of neurosurgeons from Bellevue Hospital and NYU is diligently working towards identifying a life-saving intervention through aneurysm clipping surgery. The decision to proceed with this surgical procedure is contingent upon several factors, notably the size and location of the aneurysm within her brain. Jananne's aneurysm, measuring 30mm x 40mm, is positioned centrally in her brain, presenting a heightened risk due to its substantial dimensions and critical location. In terms of perspective, a 6mm aneurysm is deemed high risk; Jananne's aneurysm is classified as "giant" (larger than a quarter) and located in a major blood vessel, posing a higher risk of rupture. Without surgery, the mortality rate is 100%. Even with surgical treatment, there is a 15-20% chance of mortality.
My family faces a lengthy road ahead. Even with a successful surgical outcome, Jananne will still have many challenges to overcome. This includes a minimum one-month recovery period at NYU, where we hope for the return of her brain function. Afterward, she will be moved to a rehabilitation facility for physical therapy, speech therapy, and swallowing therapy.
Throughout this pivotal juncture, my mother will be on Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) to provide care for my sister preoperatively, during the surgery, and postoperatively, leading to significant financial implications. Any financial contributions, along with prayers would be sincerely appreciated as we navigate through this road to recovery.
