Jana Lai

On 27 October 2022, the MAE 2015 cohort lost their good friend Dr Jana Lai, after a short but brave fight with cancer. Jana was a passionate epidemiologist with particular expertise in vaccine preventable diseases – although she would never tell anyone she was! Her work during and after her MAE took her across the Indo-Pacific region and as far afield as Egypt. Jana was always very humble despite her talents and achievements. Her kindness, generosity and eagerness to join in whatever was happening endeared her to our cohort.

We hope she will continue to be remembered for her significant contributions during her short life.

We are fundraising for a small memorial for Jana at ANU, consisting of a plaque and tree. We hope it can be unveiled on the 2 year anniversary of her death, in October 2024.
