Jan Sheffield Recovery Fund
Donation protected
On August 11, 2022, Jan Sheffield had emergency spinal surgery to remove an abscess caused by blood-borne infection (Staph) that settled in her neck in her spinal tissue. She spent 25 days at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Lexington, KY - 20 of which were in the ICU, before being transferred to a specialized nursing care facility in Danville to receive more extensive physical therapy and continued medical treatment. Although she has regained feeling throughout her body, the compression in her spine has left her still very much in a quadriplegic state.
Jan has led a very active lifestyle as a runner who often wins her age group in a local 5k races, playing with her 3 grandchildren, acting in local theater productions, socializing at local restaurants, and dancing the night away with her beloved husband, Jeff. She loves to read and write, and had the most perfect handwriting you’ve ever seen. She makes Christmas ornaments and gifts for the kids every year. She loves to play the piano, craft, and tend to her garden. We want to give her every opportunity to regain some of these abilities.
We know her recovery will be long and require extensive physical therapy, even after she leaves her current medical care. There will be many financial needs along the way to ensure we can give her the best possible chance at regaining as many of her abilities as she can.
Anticipated future costs include:
- an accessibility vehicle for transportation
- modifications to their home to ensure wheelchair access
- continued physical therapies
There has been an outpouring of support from the community looking to help in any way they can, and we hope that through this fundraiser, we will be able to provide Jan and Jeff with some of the financial support needed to prepare for the future.
