When it rains it pours, and this year seems to be quite the storm for our family. As many of you may know, my mom, Jan Neumann, contracted pneumonia and COVID back in April. She has had quite the battle since and is continuing to fight daily towards her recovery. She began by being hospitalized on April 24th where she was placed in quarantine and unable to see or touch any of her family or friends. Going through the first two weeks of her treatment alone, scared, depressed, and losing hope of ever getting better, her health quickly took a turn for the worse. She  developed clots in her legs which turned into a pulmonary embolism, had a severe rupture of her Rectus Sheath causing severe internal bleeding, developed a severe GI blockage, and her Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome progressed into Pulmonary Fibrosis making her breathing so weak and difficult that she was eventually placed on a ventilator and feeding tube and transferred over to the Good Samaritan ICU in Corvallis to continue her care. 

Her team of providers were hopeful, but also very honest and real about the severity of her condition and the statistics of her recovering not being in her favor. We continued to take her recovery one day as it came and received continuous prayer and support from so many. Within 7 days of being placed on the ventilator, she was able to breathe on her own with oxygen assistance and was able to have the ventilator removed. About one week later she was stable enough to be transferred to her current treatment facility for long term physical/occupational therapy to regain her strength and learn to walk again after being in a hospital bed for so long and having severe muscular atrophy. 

I cannot begin to imagine what my mom has been through, the majority of it alone due to COVID restrictions and protocols within each facility. As the hospital bills have already began to roll in, the cost of her treatment so far is over 500K before insurance coverage. Obviously not being able to work during this time or in the near future, her and my dad have lost the income she once brought in. Added stress is the last thing she needs during her recovery, especially financial stress. We are hopeful that insurance covers a large portion of the medical bills, but that remains to be seen. 

My mom is the person who never asks for anything, yet gives everything to those she loves. It is our time to help this amazing and truly selfless person during her time of need. We understand not everyone can donate monetarily, but anything you are able to do to support her throughout this is so appreciated. Meals, prayer, advice, your time, sharing this GoFundMe, etc...
