Janice “Jan” Elaine Hauer, 64, passed away peacefully at home in Grover, CO on May 14, 2021. She was born in Los Angeles, California to James I. McKay and Alma M. Cornwell McKay.
Jan attended and graduated from Hawthorne High in California where she met her first husband, Douglas Blackwell. She got a job as a dental assistant out of high school. Doug and Jan had a daughter named Theresa. When they divorced, Jan moved to Colorado. She fell in love and married Steven Hauer on September 13, 1981. They had a daughter named Stephanie. Jan lived as a housewife to raise her daughters. She always supported the girls whenever they needed anything, such as school projects, sports, or advice.
Jan was always involved in music. She was raised singing with her mom and sister. She was in multiple choirs and would randomly break out into song if the mood arose. Jan also loved puzzles. Her family would sit down with encyclopedias and dictionaries and work together to solve the puzzle. She attended any sports game, music program, or recital her family had. She enjoyed cheering on the people she loved.
Jan and Steve have five grandchildren. She cuddled them all as babies. She loved playing with them and watching them grow. She enjoyed playing board games and cards and was incredibly competitive. Jan was a devout Christian. She served as a secretary at the Hereford Church where she attended regularly. She helped Steve lead a youth group where she helped many children get through their high school years. She had an infectious laugh that made everyone happy around her.
Jan is survived by her husband Steven, her daughters and their spouses, Theresa and Lenard Larkin, and Stephanie and Blaine Tarr; her grandchildren, James, Alexander, and Nathaniel Larkin, Aubrey and Austin Tarr; her father, James; her brother, Robert; and her sister, Judy. She is survived by many nephews, nieces, and in-laws. Jan was predeceased by her mother, Alma.
