Update 06/10/24
Thank you so much to all who have donated. It’s so heartfelt and my friend Jan is so grateful ❤️
Here is a quick update as of today June 10th ..and below that is most of the original post:
Jan is home and has been doing PT, but had to quit the PT since she simply had to go back to work. While things are going pretty good and she is healing, the doctor had advised her not to go back to work for a couple of months, but she has gone back anyway ( on a very part time basis). In the meantime, she just had another surgery last Friday (out patient), and was in excruciating pain all weekend. Unfortunately, she had to work for a few hours today (Monday June 10th) and she went.
She is still trying to catch up on bills and it’s not going very well since she just can’t work a full schedule because of pain and fatigue . I’ve updated and shared this again since a couple of her friends asked where the fundraiser was…
Everything below this point was from a previous update in April

April 24/24
Jan is home and while neither of the doctor or PT has released her yet, she’s trying to get back to work. Jan knows that she can’t afford to take off a couple more months, but that she does need to be very conscious of how much she’s on her feet, lifting, bending, walking, etc..
If there’s one thing to take away from all of this is how easily somebody could be in the same position, especially as they get older. There has been one obstacle after another, and that’s not including just trying to recover.
…In the meantime, it seems there is a standstill with donations, so I’m sending this out one more time because people still say that they never saw it and I’ve had to direct them. Sharing this one more time ❤️

Jan is home and more recently took her little dog Adrianna home (after almost 6 months) to make sure that she can manage taking her outside to potty. While the donations have been appreciated immensely, she’s still not able to work for another 2 months or so and is very worried. It would be great to get this fundraiser to at least $5000+.
She’s going to physical therapy and doing the things at home that the doctor ordered. This was a long, tough route for her and of course I was more than happy to have Adriana here while she was out of commission.
…My name is Sheri Berlinger- Carte and Jan Gatto was my dad’s caregiver before his death last year. Jan had a serious car accident on September 18th, her car was totaled, she had to be cut out of the car, and her leg and foot were broken in various places. She was in the hospital for 18 days and then in rehab for almost 5 mos to heal her leg/foot. She has now had two surgeries. The Orthopedic surgeon told her that had it happened to him (and most surgeons he knows) would probably have just opted to take their leg taken off instead of going through the trauma she’s been through.
… Going forward, Jan has been out of work since the accident in September. She did just purchase a car since hers was totaled, so that’s a start. She prides herself on originally have funds saved to pay bills the first four months but is now trying to catch up and is significantly behind on bills, both utility/living expenses and medical bills she will have beyond her insurance.
Needless to say, Jan is very depressed and embarrassed that she’s in this position. While her main goal right now is to get back on her feet and working, the stress and worry continue over the bills.
I told her I was going to do a fundraiser, and while I don’t know how much it will raise, any amount will be helpful.
Thank you in advance as I know Jan will be more than grateful❤️
Sincerely in awe of her great friends,
Sheri
